FLACK FAMILY OBSERVED DOUBLE ANNIVERSARY
By Celebrating Silver and Bi-Centenniary Events.
"REPRODUCED WEDDING"

About 125 Members of the Clan Paid Tribute To The Nuptials of the Original Flacks in 1732 – Many Guests Wore Old Fashioned Gowns – Excellent Program.

Forest Grove, Sept. 13 – The twenty-fifth annual reunion of the descendants of James and Ann (Baxter) Flack was held at the home of Arthur Flack, here Saturday.

The morning was spent in gathering and exchange of greetings, which always proves enjoyable.

At noon the usual abundant picnic dinner was served on the lawn.

The afternoon meeting was in charge of Mrs Henry Schmidt and Henry Schmidt, president of the clan, who called the meeting together by the singing of America.

The devotions were in charge of Mrs Margaret Flack. She chose for her scripture reading the Twenty Third Psalm followed by the repeating of the Lords Prayer in Unison.

To commemorate those who have passed away during the year and the dead of 200 years (since the family is 200 years old) the clan held a memorial service in charge of Wallace Saner.

The service was opened by a cornet solo, “Nearer My God to Thee” by James Adams. Mr Saner then gave his memorial address. Tribute was paid with white carnations to the deceased of the past year by Catherine Flack as the names were read. This was followed by a cornet solo “Abide With Me” by James Adams. The service was closed by silent prayer with taps.

A splendid entertainment program followed. Vocal duet, “The Voice in the Old Village Choir.” Evelyn Fryer and George Mann; recitation, “Whims” William Liebig; Piano duet, Edith Cadwalder and Margery Price: recitation, “A Good Name” Mrs Louisa Flack; and a piano solo, Miss Dorothy DeCoursey.

The Treasurer reported a balance of $32. Several valuable suggestions were made by chairman of the table, sport, and entertainment committees that will be put into effect next year.

All old officers were re-elected as follows. President, Henry J Schmidt: secretary, Cora F Stover: treasurer, Mary Michener: chairman table committee, Mrs Arthur Flack; chairman sports, Mrs Henry Schmidt.

Mrs Clara Ley asked to be relieved of her office as historian which was granted. G F Flack was elected by acclamation to fill this position.

In addition to prizes awarded by the sports committee, the following were awarded to the oldest lady, Mrs Mary Flack, 84: oldest man, Charles Duckworth, 84: youngest member:Wilmer Newlyn Grubb, 4 weeks: largest family, Mr and Mrs Wilmer Duckworth, 12 members present: greatest distance, George Flack, Wilkes-Barre.

Arriving later, Mrs Louis Preonas, son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs Earl O'Hara of Dayton, O (Ohio?) were also awarded a special prize for coming the longest distance.

An interesting feature at the close of this meeting was a pageant presented in honour of two hundredth anniversary of the marriage of Ann Baxter and James Flack on board Ship in 1732.

This marriage was reproduced in the pageant. Parts were taken as follows. Ann Baxter (Clara Flack), James Flack (Watson Flack), John Baxter (George Brooks), Elizabeth Baxter (Mabel Liebig), Captain (James Adams).

The wedding was witnessed by many guests in gorgeous old costumes most of which belonged in the family and dated back as far as 1783. The program was brought to a close with the singing of “Bless Be The Tie”.

The sports committee had prepared a very amusing program for the rest of the afternoon.

Prizes were awarded as follows:
Shoe scramble for boys, winner Bobby Adams; girls shoe scramble, winner Dorothy Kreisher; happy girls, winner Mary Louise Flack: paper race, winner Mr and Mrs Wylie Flack; potato race girls, winner Evelyn Fryer: potato race small boys, winner Bobby Adams: potato race small girls, winner Barbara Schmidt: bean and straw race for men, winner Harry Kendig: bean and straw race for girls, winner Evelyn Fryer: beans in milk bottle men, winner Harry Schmidt: beans in milk bottle boys, winner Alfred Daniels: newspaper race, winners George Mann and Evelyn Fryer: three-legged race (2nd race) first winners George Mann and Evelyn Fryer, second Alfred Daniels and Earl DeCoursey: 3 legged race (1st race) first Harry Schmidt and Catherine Flack: aviation race, winner Edith Jamison: aviation race, winner Edith Stow: aviation race middle age fellows, winner Earl DeCoursey: aviation race, winner Bobby Adams: aviation race girls, winner Barbara Schmidt: aviation race, winner Alta Holmes: names on cards, winner Alta Holmes and Dot DeCoursey.

A supper served on the lawn of the beautiful home of Mr and Mrs Flack brought the days festivities to a close.

There is no doubt that this reunion, which incidentally celebrated its silver anniversary and the bi-centenniary of the landing of its pioneers in America, is one of the most distinguished of Bucks county's families when it comes to ancestry. About 125 members attended the affair.

Huge thanks (once again) to Carol Temlin for sending me this copy.
