Report compiled after 1st Flack Family Re-Union - 1909
WRITTEN BY JAMES FLACK, BORN 7 OCT, 1834, DIED 23 NOV 1917
AT AGE 83
Our ancestor, James
Flack, who emigrated to this country, as I have learned since our reunion
last September, about 1733, from the North of Ireland. The Flacks were of Presbyterian
faith and most likely driven out of Scotland at the time of the persecution
of the Christians in that country.
My Grandfather told me that his Grandfather came from Ireland and had married
an Irish girl who, I find by examining the records, was Ann
Baxter. This said James
Flack owned 325 acres, 130 perches of land situated about 2 miles southeast
from Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He must have been possessed of a large measure
of those excellent qualities that made the Scotch-Irish pre-eminent in the development
and progress of th new country, for he became an extensive land owner and died
with what for that day was a large competence. The tract of land lies directly
across the road from this place.
Our ancestor, James
Flack, lived to the great age of 94 years and dies September 2, 1802, his
wife Ann having passed away over a year before - March 23, 1801 aged 87 years.
Said James
Flack left a will dated 1793 in which he bequeathed to his wife Ann
a stipulated amount per year. The residue he left to his 8 children in equal
shares except to Joseph,
who settled his estate, and to his Granddaughter, Edith
Flack, who lived with them 10 pounds. Each share amounted to 516 pounds,
12 shillings, 8 pence and 1 farthing.
I see by old deed dated September 8, 1804, the heirs of James
Flack deeded the same 325 acres and 130 perches to his son, Joseph
Flack, for a consideration of 3616 pounds, equivalent to $9642.66.

Joseph
and Samuel
owned 49 acres of land in what is now the first ward of Doylestown Borough,
lying south and east of Lenaps (?) Building on part of which I now reside.
I have gained quite a bit of information relating to the Flack Family from
descendants
of the above mentioned, William
who gave me a pretty thorough genealogy of their branch, and I would feel grateful
to any other descendant who would give me information that would lead to a complete
history. I see in looking over the archives that quite a number of our descendants
served in the Revolutionary Army and in the war or 1812.
