James Flack was Born on Sunday ye 5 th Day of September in the year of our Lord 1803
Nancy Flack was Born Tuesday the 29 th Day of October in the year of our Lord 1806
Andrew Flack was Born on Monday ye 16 th Day of October in the year of our Lord 1809
Thomas Pinckney Flack was born on Saturday the 4 th Day of June in the year of our Lord 1814
Elisa Jane Flack was born on Saturday the 14 th Day of March 1818
Eliza Jane Flack was Born on Saturday the 14 th Day of March in the year of our Lord 1818
[Ja]mes Flack was Born on Friday [ye] 19 th Day of June in the year of our Lord 1761
Nancy Flack was Born on Tuesday ye 21 st Day of December in the year of our Lord 1773
The above Named was Married on Thursday ye 22 nd Day of February in the year of our Lord 1798
James Departed this life on the 24 th day of September 1840, 79 years old last June, 1761 .

State of Kentucky Todd County

On this eighth day of October 1832 personally appeared in open court before the Justices of the Todd County Court now sitting James Flack a resident of said County and State aforesaid aged 71 years who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following statement or declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7th, 1832.

That he entered the Service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein Stated

He entered the Service under Colonel McDowell and General Butler and Captain Davis of Guilford [County] that he entered the Service in the month of April 1779 went on a tour of nearly 4 months and that all that time he was under the Command of the above named officers the second Tour of nearly 4 months was under the command of Colonel Pacely [sic, Paisley] & Captain Andrew Willson of Guilford and that occasion said Flack filled the office of Ensign the second excursion was in the fall of 1780 the third expedition of nearly 4 months was in the year 1781 and that tour he served under Colonel Paisley and Colonel Isaac [? this name is written over] of Surry County and Captain Smith Moore of Guilford in his first tour the company to which he belonging [sic] rendezvoused at Guilford in North Carolina from thence they marched to Salsberry [sic, Salisbury] from thence through Sharlott [Charlotte] then we crossed Savannah River in Georgia and went into the State of Georgia & near Augusta we remained there but a few Page 2 days before we returned & went towards Chalston [sic, Charleston] and after recruiting some time through the country were discharged our second tour we went through Salisbury thence to Charlotte & camped not far from McCorpins [? McAlpine’s ] Creek, then marched back to Salisbury & crossed the Yadkin River after the British had come to Charlotte N.C. and we were then under the command of Colonel divison [sic, William Lee Davidson?] and we were then discharged in Meclenburgh [sic, Mecklenburg County] without having any fights during this tour, and our third expedition we were generally in Randolph County in North Carolina and engaged most of the time hunting of Tories he further states that he was at the Battle of Stono and was under the Command of Colonel Malmedy a Frenchman at which Battle his left-hand man fell at his feet, he further States that at that Battle General Lincoln had the Command of the whole Army he further States that he has no Documentary evidence, and that he knows of no person whose testimony he can procure who can testify to his Service

I hereby relinquish every Claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present, and declare that my name is not on any pension roll of any other State court Territory

I was born in Guilford County North Carolina in the year 1761

Have you any record of your age and if so where is it

I have a record of my age as made by my father in his lifetime at my house in this County.

Where were you living when called into the Service, where were you living during the war & where do you now live

I was living in the State of North Carolina Guilford County when I enlisted & during the war. I live at this time in Todd County Kentucky

Did you ever receive a discharge from the Service, if so by whom was it given

I do not recollect whether I received a written discharge or not I was discharged ful [sic] by whom I do not recollect

State the names of persons to whom you are known in your present neighborhood and who can testify to your character for veracity and good behavior.

There our Several but I will name Mr. William Taylor, Jesse Grubbs & J. W. S. Moore Sworn to & subscribed the day & year aforesaid.

[On May 20, 1850, Nancy Flack of Todd County, Ky., filed for a widow’s pension under the 1848 Act stating that she is the widow of James Flack, a pensioner at the rate of $33.66/annum; that her maiden name was Nancy Ross; that she married James Flack on February 22, 1798; that they were married by Esquire Peoples in Guilford County, NC; that the annexed family record is in the handwriting of her husband; that he died September 24, 1840 in Todd County, Ky.]

[fn p. 27, substantially identical application given by James Flack, this application dated May 13, 1833; except in this one he states that he is blind and has been for 10 years; and the neighbors named by him are Thomas Watts, William Quisley and Beverly Stubblefield.]
