James Flack & Ann Baxter
From Northern Ireland (?) to Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA.
When I first started to put American Flack families on my own searchable database,
one of the first familes I came across was that of James Flack and Ann Baxter.
When I was 1st looking round the various family trees on Ancestry and the rest
of the web it seemed that a good 80% of all Flack's in the USA were claiming
links back to this couple.
I then came acoss the 'Ancestry' tree database of TANIA SHURKO. She
'quoted' a lot of her sources and the information there was the best I had seen.
I contacted Tania and she sent me a lot of information to get me started. She
has spoken to a lot of the Flacks in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, has visited many
of the graveyards there, and has very sound documentation on the family. So
my Flack tree is very much based on Tania's very hard work and the initial documents
she let me have (2 reports for the first 2 Flack Family Re-Unions which name
the vast majority of the early family - and lots of factual info from the Flack
family Bible).
The documents (which quote from James Flack's Will dated 1793) show the 'heirs
signing' and his descendants family - the 10 children are all named (most with
spouses). So the 1st line of the tree is fairly clear to see. The rest I leave
up to you.
*NEW (October 2007)* - I'm
now being helped with this tree by 2 family members of the tree itself - Rich
Flack and Carol Temlin.
Rich Flack actually lives in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Rich's family line (starting with his Grandfather) is George (1911), Harry,
Stephen D, William, David, Joseph, and James Flack (abt 1708).
Carol Temlin was born in Doylestown, Bucks County Pennsylvania
but now lives in Oregon. Carol's family line goes up via her father William
Liebig and mom Jean, Charles Liebig married Mabel Valentine Flack (her grandmother),
then Walter Flack, Oliver, James, Joseph and James Flack (1708).
*NEW (February 2008)* - George
H Bennett, another family member has now joined our small entrepid
team of researchers to add additional information - - George's family goes
up through his father (also) George H Bennett, Amy Frances Opdyke, Ann Connard,
Euphemia Flack, Joseph and James Flack (1708).
They are all providing me with lots of excellent source information which
will greatly enhance the accuracy of the tree information (Wills, headstone
images and obits for example). Since they all started to help, the size of
this family tree has grow from just over 400 people to now over 2,200 people
at the last count - and as I said above - the source information supporting
all these new family names is superb.
So many many thanks from Denise (my website co-host) and myself to them all
for unselfishly sharing their information WITH YOU.
Bucks County itself seems to have a wealth of information too about the Flack
family. Websites such as Hillpot
Family Genealogy, Bucks
County PA, GenWeb and many more.
I will be the first to admit that I still have the vast amount of information
here to source myself - as by sourcing the information I can more confidently
discount many of the Flacks who I believe have been wrongly attached to this
tree on other websites (it helps us both).
If you can add to (or ammend) this tree in any way I would be most pleased
to hear from you.
The initial document sources of my information are linked below.
