James Flack (1753-1841)
born Co.Antrim, Ireland, died Westmoreland County, PA
This whole family tree started off with the email enquiry, below, from a gentleman called Jim Sellars.
Hi, I'm doing some research on a Kentucky fort
that was captured by the British and Indians in 1780. There were two Flack
brothers there from Westmoreland Co., PA. James Flack left a pension statement
in Westmoreland Co., PA and it mentioned that he was 81 years old in 1834
and he was born in County Antrim, Ireland, moved to Bucks County, then to
Cumberland County, and then to Westmoreland County. He came to Kentucky in
1780 and in May of that year was at Ruddell's Station as a private with his
brother. The day before the fort was captured his brother was killed by indians
and on June 24, 1780 the fort was captured. I believe the name of his brother
was Robert because both James and Robert Flack were on a petition from Kentucky
dated May 18, 1780. James was eventually taken to Canada where he escaped
and returned to his relatives in Cumberland Co., PA. The final payment vouchers
show that James died Feb. 23, 1841 His pension file only mentions a granddaughter
who wrote to get a copy of his pension in 1916. Her name was Mary B. Clark.
Does he fit in anywhere in your Flack family? Trying to find some information
on his background and family. -- Jim Sellars
Unfortunately I had no answer to his question at the time as I had no record of this James Flack at that time, but with a huge amount of his help with initial top end "source documentation " I am slowly having some success with James and his descendants. If anyone else can give input that will help me or Jim then please contact me via the website email and I will pass it on to Jim Sellars too.
